"To be or not to be", it is one very famous opening line in the soliloquy in William Shakespeare's masterpiece, Hamlet. Shakespeare really shook the world by including this wonderful phrase in the dialogues of one of his works. Many people do not really understand the real meaning of this phrase and so do I. But in the world of literature, there's no limits. There's no such thing as boundaries. Its all about how you understand it and how you think of it.
Me, I personally admire this phrase by William Shakespeare. I also agree that he is the best playwright the world has ever known. Of course I respect all the other writers out there but there's just something about Shakespearean masterpieces that make them stand out from the rest. Based on how I understand it, this phrase is really great. Most writers would emphasize on the emotions of the lines being thrown by the actors but somehow, Shakespeare was able to insert this phrase which really makes the soliloquy more amazing. It just shows us that William Shakespeare is a big hearted person.
So now, lets talk about how I understand it. For me, it means that, no one can decide for you on what you would want to be. Yes, you might want to ask other people's opinions but in the end, you are still the one to decide. You are the only one who can influence your decisions. Its up to you, if you would want to be a better person or not. Its all up to you, you just have to make good decisions and everything would be alright.
This thought is really applicable in my life not only as a student but also as a private individual. As a student, its just a matter of being a good student or not. If you choose to be a better student, there are bigger chances of you getting passing grades and also getting the respect of classmates and also teachers. On the other hand, if you choose being a stubborn student, you would have to fave the consequences.
Meanwhile, as a private person, other people have told me, "Hey man, change your attitude." and all those stuffs. Even my parents thought I was going the wrong end of the road. Even if everyone was judging me already, I didnt care. I just walked one and gave it my all. Now, look who's here. I made it. I pursued what I want and now, I have found the better side of me.
We all have our own lives and own businesses. We will go wrong sometimes but still, its up to us when it comes to who we will be. Just keep your aims high, focus and who knows, you could be or not be a better person in the end.
